If you are keen explorer our estary called Kopuawhara Stream is full of life and exploration for investigators that love sea life. Great for finding sea snails and many types of sea creatures.
Mahia Peninsula is perfectly situated to catch the best waves at its many surf beaches no matter which way the wind is blowing.
We have a unique peninsula, if one side is too rough the other side will be perfect. Our most famous Surfing beaches are called Blacks Beach that leads into Waitaniwha Bay. Mahanga can be great for beginner surfers.
There are many sufcasting areas, and safe coast for boat fishing. We have two boat ramps that we can say for sure one is better on full tide.
Mahia Boating and Fishing Club launching ramp and a 2nd launching ramp at Whangawehi this side is better for larger boats. The local Fishing club also offers memberships for keen fishermen with a tractor hire, this can be obtained if you are a member of the fishing club, a great club for a really serious fisherman. At Mahia Beach and on a mild day on Blacks Beach cost we often see many surfcasters catching that nights dinner. We often get Kawhai and Snapper off our shores. Snapper rock is also a big favourite however you need to make sure you do not get caught in rocks.
We see many keen cycle enthusiasts in Mahia, we offer bikes for hire all year around.
A combination of long flat sealed roads and kilometres of hilly gravel climbs. As the roads are not heavy traffic cyclers get a good space on the road.
The area is a haven for bike riders of all ages and abilities. A short ride is to Taylors bay and a great distance if you have beginners in your group.

The Peninsula has many Marae and urapa, and has a rich seafaring and farming history. The historical name linked is Pikimai Kakemai.

Stretch your legs on the Mokotahi Hill Walk, this walk is about 20 minutes to 30 minutes, it goes up a hill that is at the end of Mahia Beach.
Mahia Peninsula Scenic Reserve Track. This walk is approximately 2.5 hours. It is a intermediate to experienced walker. Doc maintains this area and keeps the paths clear. If you are having a group trip, give Doc a call and let them know when you plan your walk, they will be more than accommodating.
Morere Springs Reserve walks. Not only beautiful walks and many also run by Doc, but a beautiful soak as a reward for absolutely no reason at all except you love a hot soak. This particular Springs is set in 364 Hectares of native bush.
